Payra 1320 MW Thermal Power Plant (1st Unit) has come into operation
Successful synchronization of Payra 1320MW Thermal Power Plant (1st Unit) with the national grid of electricity and test production of 120 MW electricity which has been delivered to the national grid on January 13, 2020 at 11:05 am. The Payra Plant has been implemented under Bangladesh-China Power Company (Pvt.) Limited (BCPCL) a joint venture of North-West Power Generation Company Limited (NWPGCL) and China National Machinery Import & Export Corporation (CMC). At the end of January, 2020 the Plant will add 660 MW to the national grid. This is the unprecedented achievement of the Power Sector of Bangladesh.
The Plant has been built using state-of-the art ultra-supercritical technology, which has greater efficiency and lower emissions. It can capture bottom ash, fly ash, sulpher and nitrogen.
